Planning a baby is a joyous event for any couple, who wants to expand their family. However, not many couples are blessed with the natural ability to conceive a child. The reasons can vary from individual to individual. While some may be corrected, others will require assisted means to get pregnant.
But rather than lose facing a lifetime of depression and loss of hope, advancement in the medical field has ensured such couples get a chance at conceiving a baby. Given below are a few infertility treatment for couples who are looking to expect a baby:
Fertility drugs: This is one of the most recommended infertility treatment in India. Many couples have the required functioning reproductive organs, but they may not have a full working capability. In this case, certain fertility medications and drugs help alleviate the reproductive production. These drugs can be taken in oral or through an injection. In the case of women, these drugs release hormones that induce ovulation to boost egg production or make the uterus more receptive to embryo implantation. This is normally recommended for women who do not ovulate regularly or partners who have a low sperm quality.
Intrauterine insemination (IUI): In this process, a specially prepared and washed sperm is inserted directly into the uterus. This is done through the insertion of a thin and flexible catheter in the uterus. This is normally recommended along with fertility drugs to improve the chances of fertilisation. This is normally recommended for couples, whose partners have a slow moving, low quality or low sperm count. This is also recommended for women who have produced anti – bodies against their partner’s sperm. This is also recommended for women whose cervical mucus is too little, acidic or thick to transport to the sperm.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): If other forms of treatment don’t work, IVF is normally recommended as the ideal infertility treatment in India. In this process, the egg and sperm is combined in the lab itself. Once it is fertilised and reaches the stage of blastocyst, doctors will insert the embryos in your uterus. It then follows a natural pregnancy cycle. The number of embryos inserted in your uterus will depend on your choice. However, it can result in multiple pregnancies. Fertility drugs are recommended along with this procedure to increase the chances of a successful conception.
In Vitro Maturation (IVM): The IVM process is a new infertility treatment, similar to the IVF treatment. However, it does have a considerable difference at the same time. Unlike the IVF treatment, the eggs that are retrieved from the ovaries are still immature. They are then matured in the laboratory before they are fertilised. Therefore, women need not take any fertility drugs, which will put them at a risk of suffering from ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome OHSS.
Reproductive Surgery: Surgery is normally recommended to correct any anatomical abnormalities, remove scars or any blockages, in either the women or man. This is done in cases where women are diagnosed with endometriosis or to reverse a tubectomy or vasectomy.
